Alerts and Messaging

TX60 alerts are an optional feature. You must either enable a promotion offered with a new TX60 or purchase the feature annually.

Purchase TX60 Alerts

Log into your Weather Direct® account.

  • Select your registered TX60 from the left side under My Weather Direct.
  • Scroll down to the bottom of the Your Temperature Sensors page.
  • Follow directions on screen to complete the transaction.
  • The feature is not enabled until PayPal sends back a confirm notice this can take up to a few days.
Go to Mobile Options

Select this link to send a URL to email or a smart phone. If you save the URL on any internet-enabled device, you can view the most recent TX60 data stored on the Weather Direct® servers. The data seen from the URL is very similar to the Last Measured Values information on the main TX60 page.

Configure TX60 Email or SMS Notifications

In your TX60 account select the Edit Settings (button):

  • Review the name or change it to a meaningful description (e.g. garage).

  • Interval (select the longest interval feasible) from 5 minutes to 120 minutes--the latter is the default setting.

  • In the Alert Settings Value column, enter values for the Highs and Lows that represent a condition you need to know about.

  • In the Alert Settings Hysteresis column, enter a value representing your tolerance for conditions exceeding your notification setting. (NOTE: At this time, initial threshold violation triggers an alert, then hysteresis prevents over-notification if the violation stays in the hysteresis range. Leaving the range and then returning is an additional notification.)

  • Each environment condition is separately Enabled with a check mark. Two violations occurring together are sent on a single message.

  • Notification Settings controls the messaging. A single notification setup is shared in the pool of TX60s on the gateway. You can enable up to 3 email addresses and one cell phone. The Send a Test Message button needs to show a green success response for messaging to work.

The SAVE button must be used to keep the configurations entered.

Additional User Questions

Fahrenheit vs. Celsius

The TX60 displays data only in Fahrenheit (in the little window on the sensor). In your Weather Direct® user account, if the profile for the account is in Celsius, then the TX60 data will also show and download in Celsius.

Last Seen Notice or Data Missing

A Last Seen notice can mean:

  • The TX60 needs new batteries
  • The RF radio frequency path between each 915 mhz TX60 and the gateway isnt efficient. The TX60s have a reasonable range, but RF frequency will differ in each location a TX60 is placed.
  • The RF experiences intermittent interference.
  • TX60 mount placement is not good (e.g. for 915 mhz mount height should be 6 feet).
  • The gateway has experienced interruption in maintaining internet service.

The servers check for device communication 4 times each day. On this check, if it has been 6 hours since data was received. The Last Seen notice is issued. The conditions that trigger the Last Seen (above) can cause shorter/intermittent outages that would show up as data missing. Other issues affecting data: Examples of things that can interrupt your data collection:

  • When we must do server work; that will limit some of your data collection
  • If the user (hypothetical example) does a high-bandwidth internet task (e.g. streaming data)
  • If your ISP interrupts your service (or power outages, etc.)
  • If your gateway is in a "wait" state interval (there are some of these each day)

NOTE: The ability to disable the Last Seen message does not apply when the gateway is not connected. Any gateway not seen will trigger a Last Seen notification in the device's name.

TX60 Accuracy

The TX60 temperature ranges are similar to all La Crosse Technology sensors. Temperatures range from -39.8F to 139.8F and Humidity ranges are 1% to 99% (%RH). Users do not calibrate the TX60. The primary cause of inaccurate readings is usually mounting/placement issues.

If you doubt accuracy, we only accept either the internal side-by-side reading from a Weather Direct® display, or a mercury thermometer. In other words, you need to bring each piece to a semi-controlled location (e.g. heat registers or air vents skew readings). We use refrigerators and freezers for cold.

TX60 FTP Option

The feature for ftp services is not functional. Given the very low interest in using it, the probability is it will be discontinued at a future website update.

TX60 Gateway Information

The TX60 is not supported on the USB Gateway. To transmit data to the server, a TX60 requires the always on capability of the standard gateway.

The standard gateway can support approximately 10-12 TX60s depending on the interval selected. If you require all TX60s to have the same recording interval, or attempt to share with resource-intensive Weather Direct® audio units, then install fewer TX60s per gateway.
